Senior / Staff Software Engineer (f/m/d)

München, Remote
Full-time
Permanent employee

Your mission

We are a team of passionate engineers, product specialists and medical professionals. As a senior or staff engineer, you will build the product that enables hospitals to run effectively. You will own significant parts of our system end to end, work closely with the product specialists and forward deployed engineers who take our software into hospitals, and turn what they learn on the ground into a product that gets better every week.   This is a role for someone who wants to do some of the best engineering work of their career on a problem that genuinely matters. It is a role for those who care as much about what ships as how it's built.
  • Build the core product: Design and ship the systems behind our agentic healthcare workflows, from backend services and data models to the interfaces our users touch
  • Own outcomes end to end: Take features from ambiguous problem to deployed, monitored, working software. You'll be trusted with meaningful scope and the autonomy to decide how to deliver it
  • Raise the bar: Set technical direction, mentor teammates through code review and design discussion, and make the architectural calls that keep us fast as we grow
  • Close the loop with the field: Work with forward deployed engineers and product specialists to turn real-world evidence from hospitals into improvements that ship in days
  • Keep it shippable: Invest in the CI/CD, observability and testing that let a small team move quickly without breaking the things hospitals depend on

Your profile

  • Substantial experience building and shipping production software. Around 5+ years for senior, or a demonstrated track record of outsized technical impact for staff
  • Deep proficiency in at least one of our core languages (Go or TypeScript), and the ability to be effective across the stack
  • A history of owning systems end to end. You've designed, built, deployed and operated software that real people rely on
  • Strong engineering judgement: you can defend your decisions, you review others' work thoughtfully, and you know when to keep things simple.
  • Comfort in a continuous-delivery environment, where testing, observability and incremental releases are second nature
  • The pragmatism to work in a complex, regulated domain where "it works on my machine" is never enough.Nice to have:
  • Experience with LLMs and agentic frameworks; healthcare or hospital IT (HL7/FHIR, HIS/KIS systems); regulated environments or sensitive data
  • German language skills are a plus but not required

Why us?

How we work
  • We protect your focus. We keep meetings to roughly 2.5 hours a week. The rest of your time is yours: build, think and go deep on hard problems
  • We ship continuously. We practise continuous integration and continuous deployment: small changes, merged and released often, backed by the tooling and test coverage that make moving fast safe
  • The team reviews your work. Every change is reviewed by your team. You'll never ship into a vacuum, and you'll never be the only person who understands a critical part of the system
  • We care about the code, not where it came from. AI-produced, AI-assisted or hand-written, it doesn't matter to us. What matters is that you ship something you're proud of and can defend every line of
  • We keep the stack simple. Go, TypeScript, TanStack and Postgres. A small, deliberate set of tools we know deeply. The complexity lives in the problem, not the plumbing
Why join us
  • Work that means something, every day: You'll see the impact of your work first-hand, in the time you give back to clinicians and the care their patients receive
  • A culture built for engineers: A low meeting load, continuous delivery, and code review treated as a craft. High trust, freedom to solve problems your way, and a team who are with you 100%
  • A challenge that will help you grow: Our team consists of experts with proven track records of deploying AI in healthcare. The work is hard, real, and deeply rewarding. We expect strong ambition and a desire to learn and we offer the support to make sure your growth is also fun

About us

About us
We are a young team in Munich with a clear mission and plenty of room to shape things. Here you take on responsibility from day one, work closely with experienced founders, and see directly what difference your work makes for our customers. We value ownership, short decision paths, and honest feedback. Security and diligence are not at odds with speed for us, especially in the sensitive environment of healthcare.
Hospitals in Germany are under enormous pressure. Skilled staff are in short supply, documentation requirements keep growing, and a significant share of working hours goes into administration rather than caring for patients. This is exactly where we come in. Valova is building an AI platform for medical coding, DRG grouping, and revenue cycle management. We automate the complex and error-prone processes around ICD, OPS, and billing data, so that hospitals can work faster, more accurately, and more efficiently. We are building the platform that maps a hospital's entire revenue process, from the initial diagnosis through complete and accurate coding all the way to billing with payers. Today, each of these steps is marked by broken workflows, manual rework, and avoidable revenue losses. Our vision is an end-to-end revenue cycle management that closes these gaps: fewer claim reductions and medical service reviews, a clean case mix, and a financial foundation that gives hospitals room to breathe again. When administration runs reliably in the background, care is what wins in the end.

Why you belong here
You don't just want a job, you want to move something that is genuinely needed in the German healthcare system. Whether you come from medicine, customer-facing roles, technology, or operations: what matters to us is that you want to take ownership and enjoy an environment where much is still taking shape. You bring curiosity, diligence, and the ambition to do things really well. Then we should get to know each other.
